Widely Absurd Exhibition Curated by Monica Sanchez Argiles

Mark Woods, Hope

Joseph Popper, Runway

“Widely Absurd”, is the first of a series of shows wanting to explore the concept of “absurdity” and people’s resulting struggle for happiness. We live in a time of irresolvable contradictions, where the urge of being happy -at all costs- profoundly differs from our system’s constant pressures for consumption, success and competition. As a result, depression, unhappiness, addictions, anxiety and violent behaviour are the alienating disorders that we have to put up with.

This exhibition looks into the work of seven London-based-artists: Joseph Popper, Mark Rathmell, Cat Roissetter, David Shillinglaw, Mark Stringer, Jazmin Velasco and Mark Woods, to explore their different approaches into the conscious/unconscious acceptance of the dominance of absurdity.  Although their artistic conceptions greatly differ from each other, they all join in the tragicomic idea of absurdity: amusing and entertaining initially but, if sustained, disturbing or even repulsive.

Mark Woods, Hope

The exhbition kicks off with a private view on the 3rd February 2012 at 6.30pm at The Hundred Years Gallery, 13 Pearson Street, London, E2 8JD.  For more infro visit hundredyearsgallery.com

Sincerely Yours Show – Graphic Design Exhibition

sincerely yours 1

Nine recent Graduates from an MA in Graphic Design at the London College of Communication have come together to produce the Sincerely Yours exhibition.  Sincerely Yours showcases work from a diverse group of individuals who have taken a different approach to Graphic Design.   Using investigative and research based methods they deal with a range of issues in the social, political, cultural and personal spheres.   They are also trying to attempt to address rising unemployment as many emerging professionals in the Graphic Design field struggle for work.  With the exhibition they are aiming to challenge job-hunting approach design shows traditionally adopt and they invite viewers to get up close and intimate with their work in the space rather than view from a distance.

The exhibition has been taking place at 134 Kingsland Road, London, E2 8DY  and runs until today 17/12/2011 from 11.00am – 8.00pm
