To mark what on 9^th March would be the 16th anniversary of the tragic death of the man many consider ‘the greatest mc of all time’ we are going in hard to represent for Brooklyn’s finest the one and only Notorious Big aka Biggie Smalls.

Mr Thing & Spin Doctor are going to go back to back in a 2.5 hour Biggie tribute set mixing his classics tracks, guest verses, remixes & original breaks. Expect to hear not only the classics you already know and love but a selection of lesser known bangers!

As ever residents Mo Fingaz & Chris P Cuts will supplying the heat old and new while running room 2 will be the Extra Classic collective. Having represented many a session with their sweet selection of Dancehall, Reggae, Lovers Rock & Soul, it’s always a pleasure to hear them play. On the night will be Al Fingers and Disorda on the decks laying down a strictly vinyl arsenal, combined with the charismatic style and fashion of the legendary Seanie T on the mic. Expect Extra Classic vibes a plenty!

THE NEXTMEN at The Doctor’s Orders

It is once again competition time here at downtheditch.com and what better way to kick off your 2013 by attending the 4 hour deck set from Hip Hop legends The Nextmen at the Premier monthly Hip Hop night event in Shoreditch.  The Nextmen join the resident Doctors Orders Crew at East Village Club on Great Eastern Street for a Hip Hop bonanza on Friday 8th February 2013.

If you don’t know the name already then get to know it now: Freddie Gibbs. Not your typical rapper’s moniker  but Freddie ain’t your typical rapper!

Born and raised in the Jackson’s hometown of Gary Indiana his distinctive sound and incredible flow have been causing a real stir on the underground scene for e a while now since the realease of his 2004 debut mixtape. Such a sitr in fact that he is now signed to Young Jeezy’s label working on a full length project alongside legendary producer Madlib which includes ‘Thuggin’ which has been blowing the internet up since it the video dropped.

Listing his influences as Scarface, UGK, 2Pac & Ice Cube he is already showing the skills in portraying the struggles and dreams of street life to match many of his heroes and is going to be one of the real names to watch in the next couple of years as the underground takes over.

As ever Freddie will be made to feel right at home by the residents line up London has to offer in the shape of Spin Doctor, Mr Thing, Chris P Cuts and our host MC Prankster.

There was great sadness around Scarla in Kings Cross on Sunday evening when Spin Doctor announced that the surprise special guest for the J-Dilla Foundation gig, Fat Lip from The Pharcyde had fallen victim to great British weather and was unable to fly in due to the snow.  However this sadness was short lived as it was announced that Fat Lip would be jetting into the UK on Monday 13th February for a special FREE! (Yes we love a bit of freeness!) entry night at Shoreditch hot spot East Village on Great Eastern Street.

As a quarter of the legendary Pharcyde Fatlip helped create the classic sound of Golden Era mid 90’s Hip-Hop. With classic albums such as “Bizarre Ride II’ & ‘Labcabincalifornia” and singles that such as ‘Passin Me By’ and the J-Dilla produced ‘Runnin’ & ‘Drop” still tearing up clubs across the world there is still a huge fan base for this group that originated as a B-Boy crew.

Having left the group Fatlip embarked on a solo career as an MC and now as a DJ. Having been honing his skills throughout Hollywood & California he now joins The Doctors Orders for this exclusive and FREE ENTRY London show that is not to be missed!

Joining The Doctor’s Orders driving force Spin Doctor is a line up of great DJs seasoned in rocking London’s dance-floors. Rinse FM & Eglo Record’s Alexander Nut sees the end to the bussiest year of his life with us while DMC Winner DJ Blakey displays the skills that have seen him become the face of DJ Hero. Holding things down as he has all year is one and only Chris P Cuts. Blending a ferocious mix of Hip-Hop, Soul, Bass and beyond you are gonna have to ask santa for some new dancing shoes having worn them out tonight.

Performing live in the intimate basement setting are some of the hottest rising talents based on these fine shores. Pugs Atomz first make himself known as the energetic host & MC for DJ Vadim’s DJ sets & The Electric love shows. Having released an album in his own right on BBE his mic skills are unquestionable. Joining us for his 2nd live set in as many years is the firecracker Skillit while warming up the stage and the whole venue with shear heat of their seven deep crew is one of the most exciting acts to appear on these shores in a while Piff Gang who just finished supporting Mac Miller on his UK tour.

Hosting the ground floor is the all female crew that have made a lot of noise in a very short space of time Rock Da Belles. Consisting of Emily Rawson, DJ Steffie & DJ Fearney they are sure to be giving the fellas in the basement a run for their money!

THE NAILS
One of the hottest new talents on the London nail art scene is will be setting up shop for the week end so come and get pampered by Nails By Hells.

THE ART
The Scrawl Collective are some of the most sought after artists in the land. Traveling the world for exhibitions and commissions alike you can see what all the fuss is about for yourself as they host a stall giving you the chance to get your hands on a one off piece of art.

THE CLUB
After the sale on Saturday night we are re-opening for a one off club night with an incredible line up for DJs including Mark Rae (Rae & Christian), Andy Smith (Portishead), Mr Thing, Spin Doctor, Mo Fingaz & Bobba Fat all spinning sets laden with samples and the music they created.
